This Is Getting Old

The Client

Rachel Lee thrives on helping, connecting, and problem-solving, and has a reputation for being an over-the-top provocateur. She is passionate about teaching caregivers how to shorten their eldercare learning curve, avoid reinventing the wheel, realize they are not alone, have compassion for their family and themselves, weather the sandwich generation squeeze, and laugh loudly and irreverently, even in their darkest hours.

She has a BA in nonfiction writing, an MA in Counseling Psychology, and has worked as a teacher, editor, writer, and project manager of processes, projects, and people (both dead and alive). The inspiration to create her website derived from how much she had to learn over the last decade. And how often she finds herself using that knowledge to inform and support others’ eldercare “undertakings.”

The Project

Rachel’s original website name was “Irreverent Eldercare” but her partner pointed out that it sounded neglectful. She added a word and made it “Irreverent Eldercare Insights.” I counseled that this was not only long but…boring. After some brainstorming and URL hunting, we settled on “This Is Getting Old” (this-is-getting-old.com) for both the literal and metaphorical meanings.

The Design

Rachel had a very specific idea and aesthetic in mind, so my role was to make it come to life. She drew her “crappy cartoons” and I put them in place on the website and other digital assets.

Our shared dark humor and irreverence meant this project was a joy and we continue to work together.

 Design Work

Rachel says…

Elizabeth is not just an amazing sounding board and creative, she is an amazing person. One of the best parts of my day / week / month is meeting with her to work on TIGO. By the end of the meeting she will not only have dragged me into the 21st social media and website century, she will have found the perfect design for my imperfect ideas, while also educating me on community fridges, indie documentaries, and the latest dark humor discovery we can both revel in. She is the best mix of sweet and savvy, and not afraid to use silence to make you realize you don’t know what the hell you are doing so should just follow her lead. She is FAR more than a designer … she is an amazing, engaged, conscientious collaborator capable of helping you execute a vision you would never even have without her.
