DECOLONIZE DESIGN

Design is not neutral. The recent proliferation of resources, designs, and education for allies prove that the subject of creative energy matters. I am committed to using a diversity of images and representations in my client work and I’ve created this resource for you to commit to something similar for your business. However, representation is not a substitute for anti-racist work, so I have included the actions I have committed to as a foundation of my anti-racist work. I will create systemic change that lasts beyond myself and my designs. I approach all of this work with a curious and open heart. If you have questions, feel free to contact me here.

I AM COMMITTED TO:

  • diversifying my feeds

  • educating myself on history and context

  • practicing cultural humility and engaging respectfully

  • promoting marginalized designers and voices

  • passing on opportunities that do not reflect my identity

  • avoiding and calling out cultural appropriation

  • improving representation in my visual storytelling

  • co-designing with diverse collaborators

  • creating lasting systemic change through connections and alliances

  • dismantling power structures

This resource is always a work-in-progress. If you have people, organizations, articles, books, or anything else to share on the topics, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.
