Vintage nativity figurines, vintage McDonald’s Preskool place, paint, polymer clay

12 x 14 x 12 inches

Description:

I was a firsthand witness to the globalization of Evangelicalism and McDonald’s when I lived in China in the early 2000s. One day, I found this Playskool set in my lobby and recognized it as a toy I used to play with at my grandmother’s house. Using a mixture of people and bear nativity sets, I repainted them to look like McDonald’s toys. Ronald McDonald is an angel and the manger is nestled into the ball pit instead of hay. Joseph was left out of this vignette because he wasn’t the dad anyway, right? I felt like Mary could use a wife for the handful that Jesus turns out to be.
